Unit 2:Digital Citizneship

Changes

We did many changes throughout the process, but the most prominent change we did was creating 3 videos for illustrator instead of 4. Since there were two very similar tools for illustrators, we decided to combine those tools into one video or select one of the two tools that are more multi-functional and helpful. Another change is that we didn't necessarily follow the timeline diagram that we created in Criterion B. Although we incorporated the important aspects of the video, we decided that including multiple examples and re-emphasizing the explanation of the tool is although helpful, we need the videos to be short and simple. We gave ourselves a 7-minute time limit, and nothing should exceed that limit, and if we were to follow the format that we mentioned in the video timeline, then all the videos would have been too long. It was still an ongoing idea whether or not we should merge all the videos together, but after much thought, we decided to keep each video separate so that the audience it's easier to access the different tools much faster. However, we still want to incorporate the timestamp idea. We were also unsure of how people were going to access this, so then we decided to upload the video to youtube as unlisted (only people with the link can see the video.) We first decided to put the video somewhere on the Seisen website, but everyone has access to the Seisen website so anybody can see it. We have an idea to put it somewhere in Managebac where students can always refer to it when having difficulty with either of the software, but again, we are still unsure, and will probably be confirmed after the videos have been tested by the audience.

Criterion d

Reflection

What is one thing you feel you did well in implementing the Design Cycle during this project?

I think what I implemented best was my skills for Criterion B, which is investigating further solutions and collecting data. The reason I think this is because I feel as though that was the process that was the easiest, as well as the most importantly used for Criterion C. Investigating and collecting were of course part of Criterion B, but I think constructing the survey and analyzing the survey results were the aspects of the project that I would say were the most successful. I would also say that the videos went quite well, since the majority of people who answered our survey said that our product was extremely helpful in the problem that we were trying to tackle (Adobe and teaching students about the program.)  Another aspect that I would say that I did good is the reflecting aspect. My list of improvements was an eye-opener into what I need to improve next unit, and I think I evaluated my product successfully with the input of the audience, my partner, and my opinions themselves. I was able to list what needed to be better, whilst also stating what parts of the product/video needed to be better, therefore evaluating my product with accuracy and objectivity. Overall, however, I think next time I would like to focus on the beginning skills in criterion A which was analyzing similar products to ours to see what we needed to include in our video and constructing an effective Design Brief. That was the main thing I think that I struggled with because my and my partner already have an idea as to how our product looked like, so it really closed our minds to the different aspects we could've included if we analyzed model products. Creating a design brief that was able to summarize my findings, not my opinions was something that I struggled with. However, in the next unit, I will make sure to prioritize this as much as the other criteria mentioned above.

What is one thing that you would like to work on and improve for your next design project?

Again, as I have said before in the first part of the reflections, I would definitely like to work more on the beginning stages of the product, rather than the product itself. Overall, however, I think my diligence with time was a major improvement from the last unit, and I am glad that I took the last unit as a learning experience to increase my skill in this one. But my main issue was not giving enough attention to my design brief as I did to other criteria. My design brief itself was the building block for my other criteria, so I think because of my design brief, my other activities were also a little bit affected. Having a Good design brief is vital for having a good product since that design brief encaptures your main goal for making the product in the first place. Another aspect that I wish to improve on is being more open-minded in the process. I think the moment that we came up with a plan for the product, we tried to stick to it no matter what. Although that is what you are supposed to do, you will never learn anything by just following the plan. We were so focused on following the plan, we could have fixed the mistakes that we made during the process rather than reflecting on them after. An example would be at the end of criterion C, I said that adding subtitles would have been a great addition to the video, making it more understandable. If we were a bit more flexible with the plan, I am sure that we would've been able to add subtitles. However, because of that, we had a bunch of improvements that we could have done that would have made our product much better if we were more focused on getting a good project just as much as wanting for it to be get done fast. Next unit, I will try to be more open to more improvements because, at the end of the day, those small improvements can make a huge difference in the product and its impact on the audience. However, I think this was a fun unit, and I am excited about the next one.

Improvements

  • The duration Of the Videos could have been adjusted to be smaller so that we could add more variety

  • Adding Subtitles for Understanding and Inclusivity

  • Adding more VIdeos

  • Showing the videos through the point of view of a Microsoft user (android)
